Mark Cox is an established Carmarthen based artist who works in oils and watercolours. Mark is an eclectic artist who enjoys working on a variety of subjects, producing landscapes, street scenes, marine and coastal paintings. Mark, who has been painting all his life, gained an honours degree in fine art through Trinity College, Carmarthen. Although having a wide appreciation of art Mark now concentrates on traditional methods of painting Mark says: “I value the traditional skills and painting techniques which are our heritage and can only be learnt through study and experience. It is only when I see a subject that I decide how it is going to be painted. The greatest influence on my work has to be the landscape and coastline of Wales. I am more interested in “pleasing the eye” than making any great cerebral statement.” Mark has exhibited widely in Bristol, Dublin, Mid- and South-West Wales, including Cardiff and the National Assembly for Wales. His work has been sent as far as Australia and USA. Mark's next exhibition is in Carmarthen Town Gallery in the Library from 7th December - 14th December 2010.
